Sourced from a small bronze statue of Dionysus called Narciso from Pompeii. AD 79. The wine-skin over his shoulder and the gesture of hand suggest a warning about wine, but the inclination of the head perhaps shows some understanding.

Adapted from the bronze Zeus or Poseidon from the sea at Artemisium. c460-450 BC. Athens. I have changed the green bronze to a lively red. The figure is contained in a safe space where thunderbolts or tridents can do no harm.

Incorporated in space so the figure becomes timeless. Adapted from a copy of Polyclitus’ Diadoumenos from Delos. Original c430 BC.

The bronze statue of a boy retrieved from a wreck off Marathon. c340 – 300 BC. Some interpretations of the figure have him as Orpheus stringing his lyre. I have him entering a dark place.

“Marathon Boy” 340-300 BC. For me is unmistakably Orpheus stringing his missing lyre. I’ve placed him here in a showcase. His music can only be imagined.

Adapted from the West Pediment of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia. 465 – 457 BC Apollo. He faces himself – God of wisdom.

Sourced from a copy of the original “Amazon” (Sciarra type) c440–430 BC and a copy of Myrons’ “Marsyas” c450 BC (Rome). An enticing amazon startles the satyr: they are connected on the canvas by geometry.

Adapted from “Jockey” c240-200 BC. Athens. The horse is unnecessary. The impish silhouette active and mobile, contained in a shape within the canvas.

The Youth of Antikythera c 340 BC

Sourced from c465-457 BC : A Lapith woman struggles; Apollo looks on and Paeonios’ “Nike” flies in. I have intended them to be seen on tablets of stone; heavy and textured. The weight of history.

Drawn from the ivory “Bull Leaper” (c1700-1450 BC) in the Heraklion Museum, Crete. This tiny elegant figure dives through time. I have placed him in an eternal blue-green of the sea that surrounds Crete.
